SEN Garden Sponsorship

Creating Spaces That Grow Wellbeing
At the heart of our community lies a simple belief: gardens have the power to nurture more than just plants, they nurture people too. That’s why we were proud to support the creation of this special SEN (Special Educational Needs) garden at Banham Zoo.
A Garden Designed with Care
This unique space is home to nearly 200 plants, all carefully selected and donated by our External Gardening Team, Adrian and Aaron. Every detail was considered from the soft sway of ornamental grasses to the soothing scent of lavender and the vibrant blooms of David Austin roses and iris.
Visitors will discover a rich mix of planting, including:
- Lavender and geraniums for gentle fragrance
- Ferns for soft textures and greenery
- Wisteria and honeysuckle for height and seasonal interest
Together, these plants create an environment that stimulates the senses while promoting calm and comfort.
Supporting Wildlife, Supporting Nature
This garden doesn’t just benefit people, it plays a vital role in supporting local wildlife. Many of the plants provide food and shelter for bees, butterflies and other pollinators, helping to maintain a healthy ecosystem. We also included a range of birdboxes for robins and blue tits to provide a safe space to nest. By encouraging biodiversity, the garden becomes a living classroom, where nature and learning grow side by side.
Why SEN Gardens Matter
SEN gardens are thoughtfully designed to be inclusive, accessible and nurturing spaces for individuals with additional needs. By combining sensory planting, open layouts and natural elements, they provide opportunities for:
- Exploration and discovery
- Emotional regulation and relaxation
- Social interaction and communication
- Building confidence and independence
Every colour, texture and scent has been chosen with purpose, creating a space where everyone can engage with nature in a way that feels meaningful to them.
Growing Something Special Together
This project is a celebration of what can be achieved through collaboration, care and a shared vision. We’re honoured to have played a part in bringing this garden to life and to see it continue to inspire those who experience it.

All of the plants you see in the garden are available to purchase at the garden centre.
